"From Forest to Sky": A Challenge Towards Realizing a Sustainable Society

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support.

Morisora Biorefinery LLC, established in July 2025 by Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd., Sumitomo Corporation, and Green Earth Institute Co., Ltd., has officially commenced operations in October 2025 with investment from Japan Airlines Co., Ltd.

In response to climate change, the aviation industry is seeing increased demand for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). In Japan, which relies heavily on imports for most of its energy resources, creating purely domestic energy using domestic forest resources is of paramount importance, not only from the perspective of decarbonization but also from the perspective of national energy security.

Against this backdrop, we aim to stably manufacture and supply pure domestic bioethanol using domestically produced timber. Through the widespread use of this bioethanol, which can also be used as a raw material for SAF and other products, we will create new value for wood, contribute to building a decarbonized society through resource recycling, revitalize local communities, and realize a sustainable future.

With the slogan "Turning the power of the forest into the power of flight," we aim to build a robust supply chain that connects everything from raw material chips to ethanol by bringing together the strengths of our member companies.

The company name, "Mori Sora Biorefinery," embodies our strong determination to transform the power of the forest into the power of flight, a goal we will achieve through biorefinery technology. We are steadily working towards commercial production around 2030.

We sincerely ask for your continued warm support and guidance.
